Sarah has loved plants and nature since childhood. Growing up in rural California, she wandered the hillsides and mountains as a child, developing a deep love of wild places. She has always felt most at home in woods and fields.
During her early adulthood, Sarah discovered that herbs were able to help her with a health issue, where conventional drugs had failed. She began to study on her own, reading anything about herbs that she could get her hands on, identifying and researching the local flora, and incorporating herbs into her daily life. Later as a young mother she was again delighted at how simple herbal remedies allowed her to care well for her two children.
Between 2007-2011 Sarah completed four years of formal herbal training with Philadelphia Herbalist Maia Toll of Herbiary, in her Community through Advanced Herbal Training Program. During that time she also worked in the herbal retail shop, mixed formulas and tea blends, maintained the herb gardens, and served as a co-teacher in the first year Community Herbalist Program.
Sarah began her own herbal practice in 2012 seeing clients for wellness consults while she continued her education by taking classes and attending conferences with many respected teachers in the herbal community. She expanded her skill set with study in other healing modalities including Flower Essences, Homeopathy, Nutrition, Reiki and Essential Oils. Sarah also volunteered for many years as a breastfeeding counselor.
Sarah's calling as an Herbalist is to connect people back to the land and the plants, and to increase the understanding of herbs and wild plants as food and medicine. She strives to inspire reverence and respect for these plant allies who offer so much to us. To that end, she enjoys leading plant walks and workshops that get people up close with nature. She loves seeing people get excited as they make their own personal connections with the plants!
Sarah resides in Eastern PA where she has spent the last 17+ years homeschooling her two children. She enjoys tending her backyard herb and veggie gardens, knitting, singing and befriending the local squirrels.
